During the January 1st Christmas Bird Count, a Eurasian Wigeon was seen at Lake Sacajawea. 3 Common Mergansers, a less than usual sight, were also seen there. All of these birds continue to be seen on the lake over the past week.
On December 24, Kevin Black reported seeing a Eurasian Wigeon mixed with a flock of about 50 American Wigeon. The sighting was made in west Longview, south of SR4, by driving Mt. Solo Road. Kevin saw the duck in ponds between Mt. Solo School and the cemetary. There are many wetlands in the surrounding area that should be surveyed for waterfowl and a visit to nearby Willow Grove is always worth a try.
