The geographic region in SW Washington our chapter covers contains a diversity of habitats reflective of the interconnected combination of marine, terrestrial and freshwater areas. The core of the area is the coastal uplift named the Willapa Hills which in turn is crossed by the Columbia River in the South, bordered by Willapa Bay to the west and the foot of the Cascades to the east.
